Finally Back.

After over a year of work, I’ve finally completed my first novel, a high fantasy in a style familiar to fans of Lord of the Rings. I plan to publish on kindle during the next few weeks. For friends and family who follow this blog on facebook, I’m publishing under the pseudonym, Steven Drake. I attempted to get published traditionally, but couldn’t get any bites. I’m not sure whether that’s because I’m not good enough as a writer, or because I’m not good enough at the type of self-promotion that would land an agent. I’ve never been particularly good at impressing people or even just getting along with people, so anything that requires a great deal of personal communication and impressing/persuading people is sketchy for me, but of course I don’t know. Everyone who has read my novel has been impressed, even if it’s not something they are into personally. I suppose we’ll see. It would not surprise me if it enjoys some success, as big corporate publishers are probably about as out of touch with the general public as big corporate anything else.  I would also not be surprised if I can count my readers on one hand. I suppose we’ll see.

I hope to get back to writing some in this blog from time to time. I’ve thought of some articles to write (particularly about the *ahem* interesting political climate of the last few months), but I’m also working on my second novel. How quickly I finish depends on how successful the first one is.  I also hope to use this blog as a way for readers to contact me with opinions and criticism, hopefully without opening myself up to spammers and internet trolls. We’ll see how well that works out.

I will update again when the novel is available for sale on Kindle.

Good luck! I expect you’ll see a fair amount of success, especially considering its your first publication. Whatever you do don’t give up, and try to ignore any trolls that appear. They feast on anger and frustration.

    • Actually, being the weirdo that I am, I’ll probably take trolling as a compliment. Like “Wow, I have my own internet trolls. This is awesome!!!! I must be pretty popular if people care enough to troll me.
